Physician-administered ketamine-assisted care, one patient at a time.
I'm Dr. Kristy King, a board-certified physician here in Kamuela. I personally evaluate every patient, administer every treatment session myself, and stay with you for the entire experience. No franchise, no infusion suite, no anonymous drip bar.
Why I practice this way
Most of modern medicine treats the body one symptom at a time. A pill for the blood pressure, a pill for the sleep, a pill for the mood. It has its place, and I practice that medicine too. But for many people carrying anxiety, depression, or old trauma, it can feel like a game of whack-a-mole: quiet one symptom and another one surfaces, because the pattern underneath was never addressed.
Ketamine, used carefully and in the right setting, offers something different: a genuine pause. For an hour, the usual racing commentary of the mind gets quiet enough that you can step back and observe your own thoughts instead of being run by them. Patients often see, sometimes for the first time, the stories and old injuries that drive the noise. The medicine opens the window. The healing work is what you and I, and ideally your therapist, do through it.
That is why this practice is built around a physician evaluation before any medicine, unhurried sessions with me present the whole time, and structured integration afterward, when the brain is most ready to learn something new.
The Embody Reset: a six-week arc
Ketamine works best when it is not an isolated event. The Embody Reset wraps each medicine session in preparation and integration, so the window it opens becomes lasting change rather than a memorable afternoon.
Step 1
Initial Consultation with Dr. King ($250)
A 30-minute evaluation covering your full health picture and whether this work is appropriate for you. Sometimes the answer is no, and you'll leave with an honest plan either way.
Week 1
Preparation
Foundation week at Longevity Labs Hawaiʻi: the Superhuman Protocol of red light, PEMF, oxygen training, and VEMI sessions to prepare the body, plus screening questionnaires, consent, and intention-setting. Facility sessions are scheduled and purchased directly with Longevity Labs.
Week 2
Ketamine Journey Session with Dr. King ($650)
A minimum of two hours: intramuscular ketamine dosed to your body weight, continuous one-on-one monitoring by Dr. King for the entire experience, an unhurried integration conversation as you return, and refreshments before you head home with your driver.
Week 3
Integration
Superhuman Protocol sessions continue at the facility while the neuroplasticity window is open. Optional Ketamine Call with Dr. King ($150), and therapy with your own therapist is actively encouraged this week.
Week 4
Optional second journey ($650)
For many people one session opens the door; others benefit from a second pass while the momentum is alive. Decided together with Dr. King, never sold by default.
Weeks 5 and 6
Consolidation
Continued facility sessions, a written plan from Dr. King, and honest guidance on whether and when a future session makes sense.
Why I pair the medicine with the Superhuman Protocol
The medicine opens a window; the weeks around it decide what you build in it. I recommend pairing every ketamine journey with the Superhuman Protocol at Longevity Labs Hawaiʻi: red light, PEMF, oxygen training, and VEMI sessions that give the body deep rest and recovery while the mind does its work. The pairing is a recommendation, not a requirement, and the facility sessions are experiences for preparation and recovery rather than medical treatments. Superhuman Protocol pricing is separate from Embody Your Medicine and is discussed directly with Longevity Labs.
What the research shows
Ketamine is FDA-approved as an anesthetic and has been used in medicine for over fifty years. Its use for depression and other mood conditions is off-label, supported by a substantial and growing body of controlled research. A few findings worth knowing, with sources you can read yourself:
In a two-site randomized trial, a single ketamine infusion produced an antidepressant response in roughly two-thirds of patients with treatment-resistant depression within 24 hours, versus about a quarter on active placebo.
Murrough et al., American Journal of Psychiatry, 2013
In the largest head-to-head trial to date (403 patients), ketamine was noninferior to electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) for treatment-resistant depression, with fewer memory side effects.
ELEKT-D, New England Journal of Medicine, 2023
A pooled analysis of ten trials found ketamine rapidly reduced suicidal thinking within one day, with effects lasting up to a week. Ketamine is not a substitute for emergency care; if you are in crisis, call or text 988.
Wilkinson et al., American Journal of Psychiatry, 2018
In the first randomized trial of repeated ketamine for chronic PTSD, ketamine significantly reduced symptom severity compared with active placebo.
Feder et al., American Journal of Psychiatry, 2021
Ketamine promotes the growth of new synaptic connections in brain circuits affected by depression, and animal research suggests the days after dosing are a discrete window of heightened learning.
Moda-Sava et al., Science, 2019; Nardou et al., Nature, 2023
Pairing the medicine with psychotherapy appears to matter: a systematic review of 17 studies concluded that psychotherapy woven around ketamine can initiate and prolong clinically significant improvement, and a randomized trial found CBT after ketamine helped sustain the antidepressant response.
Drozdz et al., Journal of Pain Research, 2022; Wilkinson et al., Psychotherapy and Psychosomatics, 2021
In an observational study of 235 patients across three practices, ketamine-assisted psychotherapy was associated with significant decreases in depression and anxiety, with the greatest benefit in patients with the most severe symptoms.
Dore et al., Journal of Psychoactive Drugs, 2019
Individual results vary. Ketamine for mood conditions is an off-label use; only esketamine (Spravato) nasal spray is FDA-approved for treatment-resistant depression. This practice offers racemic ketamine by intramuscular injection under direct physician supervision.
Who this may help
- Depression that has not responded adequately to standard treatment
- Anxiety that persists despite therapy and medication
- PTSD and trauma-related conditions, alongside psychotherapy
- People doing real work in therapy who feel stuck at the same walls
Who this is not for
- Uncontrolled high blood pressure or unstable heart disease
- Current psychosis or a primary psychotic disorder, or active mania
- Pregnancy or breastfeeding
- Active substance use disorder, including any history of ketamine misuse
Screening for these is a core purpose of the Initial Consultation with Dr. King. Saying no when it's the right answer is part of the job.
