Psychedelic medicine: where things stand

Psychedelic medicine is moving fast. This page tracks what is approved, what is close, and what is still in research, so you can see clearly what we offer now and what is coming. Last updated October 2026.

Available now

  • Ketamine. An FDA-approved anesthetic used off-label for depression, anxiety and trauma. Dr. King offers physician-administered ketamine within Return to Rhythm on the Kohala Coast.
  • Esketamine (Spravato). An FDA-approved nasal spray for treatment-resistant depression, given in certified clinics.

Close to approval

  • LSD for anxiety and depression. A pharmaceutical form of LSD called DT120 now has three positive phase 3 trials: Emerge in major depression (June 2026), and Voyage (August 2026) and Panorama (September 2026) in generalized anxiety disorder. In the anxiety trials, a single supervised dose improved anxiety scores significantly more than placebo at 12 weeks, with improvement seen as early as day two. The FDA has granted it Breakthrough Therapy designation for both anxiety and depression. The company plans to meet with the FDA late in 2026 and to file for approval in the first half of 2027. If approved, it would be given as a single measured dose in a supervised clinical setting, not as a daily medicine.

Still in research or not yet legal

  • Psilocybin. In late-stage trials for depression. Legal supervised access exists in Oregon and Colorado. Hawaii has no legal access program yet; recent state legislation has focused on preparing for federal rescheduling.
  • MDMA. The FDA declined to approve MDMA-assisted therapy for PTSD in 2024. Research continues.
  • Ibogaine. Illegal in the United States and carries serious heart risks; it is being studied in state-funded research.

How we approach this

Dr. King follows this field closely and builds the parts that are legal and evidence-based today, ketamine, breathwork, hypnosis, neurofeedback and integration, into Return to Rhythm. As new treatments are approved, they will be added with the same screening, monitoring and care.
